Here at Aurora, we specialise in complementary healthcare. GPs are very busy and the mind aspects of many illnesses and conditions often get overlooked, leaving patients feeling unsupported. Perhaps you’d like to discover tools and techniques to help you manage chronic illnesses such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), eczema, fibromyalgia or chronic pain*. Perhaps you’ve got a lot on your mind and would like help with sleep, stress or anxiety. You might even want to look at thinking patterns around food to manage your weight in a healthy way, finally quit smoking or build self confidence. One thing’s for sure: hypnotherapy might be just what you’ve been looking for.
During our sessions together, we’ll explore your experience of the condition you’ve come to see us for; this will be a very personal process as everyone experiences conditions differently and there’s no ‘one size fits all’. This will not only help me to understand how you feel but the very act of talking about your condition can also be therapeutic, helping you to process what you’d like to change. During our time together we’ll work on coping mechanisms to help you feel better and you’ll also learn self-hypnosis so you can put what you’ve learned into practice out in the real world. With hypnotherapy, results can often become evident in as few as 4 sessions**, although this is very personal and does of course depend on how much you wish to work on. What is hypnotherapy and psychotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a talking therapy involving hypnosis and, if the therapist is adequately-trained, psychotherapy. Take a look at our post about the difference between hypnotherapy and hypno-psychotherapy to see what the difference is.
A therapy session with me (Nat) is made up of talking therapy (psychotherapy) combined with deep relaxation techniques (hypnotherapy) to help you make the changes you want to make. The deeply relaxed state of hypnosis focuses your imagination and unconscious mind to help you make positive changes to unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours. In our very first session together, we’ll explore the changes you would like to make and agree how we might tackle them.
Unlike counselling and some forms of traditional psychotherapy which involve looking at a number of issues in a conscious way, hypnotherapy works with the unconscious mind. However, this doesn’t mean you can be manipulated to do or think things you don’t want to. You’ll remain completely in control and although very relaxed, you’ll be able to talk or get up and leave the room should you really want to. At Aurora, we describe hypnotherapy as ‘deep meditation with a therapeutic goal’! If you’ve been to one of my Hypno Yoga classes, you’ll know exactly how the lovely relaxed state of hypnosis feels.
Contrary to popular belief, hypnotherapy also doesn’t have to be carried out with your eyes closed. We enter natural trance states multiple times throughout the day as we go about our lives so hypnosis is nothing more than facilitating a very natural state of being. There’s nothing mystical about hypnotherapy as it’s backed up by scientific research and there’s certainly no magic wand we can wave to make problems go away, even though hypnosis can feel quite magical at times.
Online therapy clinic
Our hypnotherapy and psychotherapy sessions are run in our online therapy clinic through Zoom.
There are many reasons why you might want to consider a session in our online hypnotherapy clinic. It’s convenient, accessible and you don’t need to worry about parking. You may also feel more comfortable in your own surroundings.
Write it down
Another perk of online therapy is that we can use the chat function in Zoom to supplement the talking part of a therapy session. Written messages can be a good choice if you find it easier to write down how you’re feeling rather than saying it out loud.
How does an appointment in the online hypnotherapy clinic work?
First, get in touch to book your free initial telephone consultation. We’ll talk about your goals and whether online hypnotherapy and psychotherapy is suitable. You’ll need a computer, phone or tablet for your appointment. If you don’t want to use the speaker on your device, you’ll also need some earphones with a microphone. Earphones can be a better choice for your session as they can block out external noise.
Once we’ve agreed to work together, you can book your first appointment through our online booking system. When you’ve booked and paid, we’ll send you some forms to complete and return in advance of your first session.
Please remember to join your therapy session from a private place where you can relax and feel physically comfortable. We also ask that you have a telephone (mobile or landline) available just in case we become disconnected. This doesn’t happen very often but the internet can be unpredictable.
Below is a list of the most common problems our clients seek hypnotherapy for. This list isn’t exhaustive though so if there’s something else you would like to work on, let us know and we’ll see if we can help.
